Music Room 10 is a huge celebration of all the venue does. Liverpool Philharmonic’s Open Day will kick off a fortnight of specially crafted performances, featuring plenty of old friends, beloved local organisations and a whole range of talent from across the city, the UK and the world.

Ian Prowse said: “I feel a deep affinity with the Music Room having been playing there since its inception, watched and felt it come of age, both as an artist and a fan. Our High Summer show is the highlight of my year, the room’s fantastic production values play a big part in that, I know that if we deliver onstage the venue is delivering too. Seeing Damien Dempsey, Amelia Coburn & Tom Robinson there as a fan alerted me to the room’s near perfection as a watcher, I reckon it'll still be going in 100 years' time!”

Richard Haswell, Head of Programme at Liverpool Philharmonic said: “When we first launched this venue in 2015, more than anything we wanted to create an inclusive space, giving audiences and quality experience and the chance to see artists who otherwise wouldn’t have a space to perform in the city. Ten years on, we are proud to welcome back many old friends to help us celebrate this anniversary. The Music Room is a venue that celebrates all kinds of music, grassroots and emerging, folk and roots, jazz and blues, pop and classical and every genre from the world over. Working with a diverse range of partners, it provides a vital platform for all kinds of artists from every conceivable background and every generation, from up-and-coming talent at the start of their careers through to established touring musicians.”

Music Room 10 begins on Sunday 28 September with Liverpool Philharmonic’s Open Day, a free event for audiences to drop in, enjoy a packed programme of musical taster sessions and experiences, and discover everything Liverpool Philharmonic has got on offer. Including mini concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir and takeover sessions in the Music Room presented by Milap, Liverpool Acoustic, LUMA Creations and Africa Oyé, showcasing artists from across the city and around the globe.

Barbara Dickson performs on Monday 29 September for a one-off concert in the Music Room. In this special semi-acoustic show, Barbara Dickson and her pianist/producer Nick Holland explore her catalogue of songs, letting the words and melodies take centre stage as she performs a wonderful range of material encompassing her folk roots, contemporary greats, and her classic hits too.

Ian Prowse’s Monday Club at the Cavern is the stuff of legend. As the Music Room’s most frequent performer he joins us on Tuesday 30 September to present a curated showcase of some of his favourite artists in a very special edition of the Monday Club. He’ll be taking to the stage alongside the stunning voice of Niamh Jones, the political poetry of David Jinx Johnson and many other Monday Club favourites.

Legendary musician and broadcaster Tom Robinson presents an evening of songs and stories from fifty years wandering the wilder shores of the record industry on Wednesday 1 October.

LUMA Creations returns to the Music Room with La Feria on Thursday 2 October bringing with them some of the finest musicians Latin America has to offer.

The Music Room celebrates its proud folk music tradition with a series shining a light on folk musicians from across the home nations. On Friday 3 October, the series starts with performances by Welsh artists 9Bach, VRï and Cerys Hafana. On Saturday 4 October, the Music Room presents two concerts celebrating Scottish folk music with RURA and Siobhan Miller, followed by Breabach and Anna Massie. On Sunday 5 October, English folk musicians take to the stage with Liverpool-born Kathryn Williams and a very special guest take to the stage, followed by O'Hooley and Tidow, Frankie Archer and Hannah Scott.

Over the last ten years, the Music Room has been home to lots of Liverpool Philharmonic’s award-winning Music and Health work – an integral part of their activity within the community, helping thousands of people every year. A very special edition of Music Mondays on Monday 6 October is open to anyone aged 18+ from the Liverpool City Region. Running as a social prescribing programme, Music Mondays aim to boost mood, increase social connection and build confidence through learning about music and making music together too.

Foot-stomping, heartbreaking, spellbinding – some Music Room legends return to sing the blues. On Tuesday 7 October, the pioneering Catfish Keith makes his tenth appearance on our stage, and award-winning, best-selling blues/soul vocalist Jo Harman returns for the third time too. Special guest, Connie Lush – the artist who performed at the very first test event at the Music Room’s launch is also back to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

On Wednesday 8 October, Gary Lucas, the Music Room’s first ever artist in residence returns with a unique, insightful and personal show. Gary will project rare archival footage of him with Jeff Buckley and Captain Beefheart, spin unreleased tracks of his works with his many collaborators, and discuss his wider career and writings in great depth. Throughout the show Gary will play live renditions of much-loved songs he co-wrote as well as choice works from his formidable, original back catalogue.

Nurturing talent and giving a platform to local artists is central to the Music Room. On Thursday 9 October, One Night on Sugnall will see some of the city’s most exciting young stars – artists who have all risen up through the Music Room and have each headlined their own show in the space – return to perform for us.

Friday 10 October is the Music Room’s official 10th Birthday and the party is hosted by Baked A La Ska with a specially-curated, never-before-seen show. In this very special performance, they’ll be sprinkling some ska dust on Beatles hits and rarities, and travelling through their own back catalogue, bringing you tracks from all five of their albums. Get ready for a real extravaganza, from one of the tightest rhythm sections in Manchester.

Since 2015, the Music Room has been an invaluable venue for Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, giving the region’s brightest young musicians a space to stage incredible concerts, and celebrate their talent and hard work. On Sunday 12 October, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Session Band and Brass Band will present an electrifying, high-energy performance of pop favourites new and old, and brass music that will bring the house down.

Since launching in 2015, the Music Room has become a cornerstone of Liverpool’s vibrant music scene — hosting big names for intimate shows and providing a platform for new artists spanning the whole spectrum of musical genres. The Music Room works closely with local creative partners including LUMA Creations, Africa Oyé, Liverpool Acoustic and MILAP, who showcase incredible artists and irresistible music from across the city and around the globe.

The Music Room is also home to intimate chamber concerts with musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, musical adventures for under 5s, showcases for young musicians, and hosts a series of inspiring community music workshops too.

Testimonials from Music Room Partners:

David McTague, Marketing & Partnerships at Africa Oyé said: “Oyé have been working with the Music Room for many years now, and it’s always a wonderful experience - collaborating to bring some of the best acts from Africa and the Diaspora to Liverpool. Amazing acts including Blick Bassy, The Dur Dur Band, KOG, N'Faly Kouyate, Anwar Ali & Dave Owen, Basseyou Kouyate, N'Famady Kouyate - to name but a few - have all performed at the venue. The Music Room also hosted our inaugural Hip Hop showcase, with emerging talent from Liverpool and the region. We're excited to be a part of their 10 year anniversary with a takeover of our artists, and look forward to many more shows in the venue!”

Graham from Liverpool Acoustic said: Liverpool Acoustic has been hosting shows at the Music Room since it opened ten years ago. During this time, we’ve introduced audiences to a diverse range of shows featuring both national and international artists. The team at the Liverpool Philharmonic has been incredible, aiding us in our ongoing mission to support local artists. This support has allowed us to create opportunities for local artists to perform on the Music Room stage, helping them raise their profiles and gain new fans. The intimate nature of the venue fosters a special connection between performers and the audience. We are excited to celebrate the Music Room's 10th anniversary with a special takeover featuring our artists Jessica Dives, She’s In The Trees, and Thom Morecroft.”
