He’s one of New York’s most daring guitarists, he’s worked with Captain Beefheart and Lou Reed, he recorded the iconic album Grace with Jeff Buckley – and now he’s back in the Music Room. Gary Lucas was the venue’s first ever artist in residence, bringing us four shows back in November 2015, and now he returns to our stage for the sixth time with an innovative and unique celebration of all that he does.
In this unique, insightful and personal show Gary will project rare archival footage of him with Buckley and Beefheart, spin unreleased tracks of his works with his many collaborators, and discuss his wider career and writings in great depth. Throughout the show Gary will play live renditions of much-loved songs he co-wrote as well as choice works from his formidable, original back catalogue – each song given context by form of introduction, musings and memories shared.
He’s worked with the greats – from Nick Cave and Patti Smith to Leonard Bernstein – and has tracks spanning a whole world of genres and styles, so this is sure to be an evening of spellbinding stories and inspiring discovery.
