Richard Cowen

Trumpet
Adopted by Roland Zollner & Colin Parr

Rick Cowen began playing the violin at the age of 6 but soon realised the error of his ways and moved over to brass where he has stayed ever since.

After playing for various local brass bands, moving up the ranks from 3rd to principal cornet, he auditioned for Chetham's School of Music aged 10 and gained a place, much to the joy of his parents who let him leave home to board and waved him off with glee. He remained there for 7 years then moved on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music.

A freelance career began at the end of his first year at college which he continued until 2003 when he became Co-Principal Trumpet with the Orquestra Nacional do Porto in Portugal. After 5 years in the sun, he moved to the milder and much more moist climbs of Ireland. After playing with both RTE orchestras and various ensembles and orchestras across Ireland he moved back to his beloved North-West where, after freelancing with many orchestras, he eventually became Associate Principal Trumpet with the Rpysl Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2018.

Fun Fact:
Rick is obsessed with the stories of Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter, has a century break at snooker and his favourite film is Halloween (which he's watched more than 50 times!)
