Anthony Williams

Double Bass
Adopted by Carolyn Waite

Anthony Williams was born in High Wycombe but grew up in Wiltshire. After a brief flirtation with the violin, Anthony was encouraged by his violin teacher to take up the double bass. He started with a local cello teacher, but soon his talents were recognised by the head of Wiltshire music service who helped him gain a place at the Royal College of Music (RCM) junior department.

Every Saturday morning for five years, Mum or Dad (they took turns) would drive Anthony the 80 miles each way so that he could have excellent tuition on the double bass, piano and also participate in orchestra and choir.

Anthony went on to read Mathematics and Music at Royal Holloway University of London before returning to the RCM for two years of post-graduate studies.

After around ten years of freelancing and many orchestral trials, Anthony took up the position of tutti double bass in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013. With his wife, Rosie and their two cats, Jeoffry and Suzie, Anthony moved to the Wirral.

In his spare time Anthony enjoys crosswords, running, cycling, climbing Wainwrights and Munros, watching all sorts of sports on television, wine tastings and the occasional home-mixed negroni.

Fun fact:

Whilst in year 11 Anthony was a member of an all-male acapella singing group called The Intrepids.
