Create Life-Changing Opportunities for Emerging Musicians
At Liverpool Philharmonic, we are dedicated to nurturing talent.
As the UK’s only music organisation with a full time orchestra, two top venues, and a leading learning programme, we’re uniquely placed to elevate talent and champion bold new music.
We believe that it is essential for exceptional early-career musicians to gain professional experience, providing a vital acceleration toward a successful future in music.
But we can’t do it alone. With your investment we will:
Together, we can ensure that musicians from all walks of life can thrive at Liverpool Philharmonic, performing classical music that remains a living, breathing, boundary-pushing art form.

Every year, four early-career orchestral players join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra through our immersive, year-long Fellowship. This incredible career development programme propels talented musicians into the professional world.
Musicians perform onstage, rehearse with world-class artists, and take part in education and community programmes — all while being paid. They also receive mentoring, career support, and access to our health and wellbeing services
"I was recently booked to play guest Principal with another orchestra. On the way to the first rehearsal I thought to myself 'thank goodness for Liverpool' because I was able to walk in with confidence, knowing a little of what to expect, and just get on with playing without any apprehension." Emily Ambrose, bassoon, 24/25 Emerging Musician
Our annual Rushworth Composition Prize is a paid development opportunity, commissioning an early-career composer to create a new work to be performed by Ensemble 10:10. Winners also gain access to mentoring, composition workshops, and behind-the-scenes experiences across the whole organisation.
Previous recipients of the Prize are now composing, arranging and conducting for national organisations including the BBC.
"Winning the Rushworth Composition Prize was a significant stepping stone and was my first opportunity to create a large scale work for professional performers. The supplementary mentorship and support was excellent. I learned so much during the experience which I continue to draw upon today." Nneka Cummins, winner of Rushworth Composition Prize 2021
