Applications are now open to young instrumentalists and singers for Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company’s orchestra, bands and choirs to start in September 2023 and work through to July 2024.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company helps young musicians from Merseyside and the North West to develop their musical skills and talents. It is home to a range of ensembles, choirs and projects, exploring and creating music across many genres and instruments, for over 400 musicians aged 8 to 21. By joining Youth Company, young people can achieve their musical goals, make friends, perform at Liverpool Philharmonic and become part of a thriving community of young artists and creatives who are passionate about music.
These ensembles and choirs are:
Youth Company’s flagship symphony orchestra offering orchestral performance experience to advanced young musicians working at or above a Grade 7 standard.
In February 2024, the Youth Orchestra will have the opportunity to perform with Sir Simon Rattle, and in the summer will be touring to Florence, Italy.
A friendly and supportive intermediate ensemble for young musicians at a Grade 4-7 standard, looking to learn the essentials of playing in an orchestra- and have lots of fun at the same time!
As Youth Company’s freshest ensemble, the Youth Session Orchestra is quickly gaining a reputation for its high-quality live performances of jazz and pop music and is ideal for young intermediate musicians with an interest in contemporary music styles.
As a member of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band, you will collaborate with other like-minded, passionate brass and percussion musicians at a Grade 5+ standard to bring a range of exciting, multi-genre brass band music to the stage.
The Youth Company’s flagship choir for local young people aged 12-19. The choir offers young singers the opportunity to develop their choral skills and perform throughout the year at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, as well as venues across the region.

Every ensemble, choir and project is led by outstanding professional musicians and artists, enhanced by musicians from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and their Chief Conductor, Domingo Hindoyan.
Youth Company musicians benefit from a host of additional musical opportunities and experiences. Youth Company members have the opportunity to participate in inspiring masterclasses with visiting UK and international artists. In the past, these have included violinist Ray Chen, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and saxophonist Jess Gillam.
Through workshops with musicians’ health specialists, Youth Company leads the way in offering performance health training for young musicians, equipping young musicians with the skills they need to avoid injury, maintain physical and mental wellbeing and enjoy a long and healthy musical life.
Youth Company also partners with some of the country’s leading music organisations and performers from the worlds of brass band, jazz, pop and other contemporary genres, such as Tomorrow’s Warriors, who frequently deliver jazz workshops for Youth Company members, and LIMF Academy, whose artists perform their original material with the Youth Session Orchestra every year.
