Conductor Clark Rundell in conversation with Angela Heslop on the music of Astor Piazzolla.
Born on the backstreets of Buenos Aires, tango is more than just a dance fuelled by passion. It’s a cry for justice, the song of a wounded heart, and in the hands of Astor Piazzolla, it conquered the world: sexy, stylish, moving with ease between the worlds of popular and classical music. Tonight, in the company of tango legend Pablo Ziegler – Piazzolla’s own regular pianist – we salute the king of ‘nuevo tango’ in what would have been his 100th birthday year with a world premiere orchestration of his Suite, Midsummer Night’s Dream.
