One of the UK’s finest youth orchestra’s, the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will be on tour in the UK for the first time since 2008, performing across the North of England in July 2017.
The Youth Orchestra’s Great Northern Tour will include performances at Ripon Cathedral (22 July), The Sage, Gateshead (25 July) and Lancaster University (27 July).
The talented North West based musicians in Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, aged 13-23 years, will perform Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Dukas’ Fanfare, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919) and Berlioz’s Marche Hongraise. They’ll be conducted by Liverpool Philharmonic’s Youth Ensembles Artistic Director, Simon Emery.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra performs exciting repertoire throughout the year at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and across the Liverpool city region, enjoying a reputation for high quality performances. Wider opportunities for its young musicians include coaching by professional musician in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, working with guest conductors, including Vasily Petrenko, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Chief Conductor; attending workshops and master classes with internationally renowned artists visiting Liverpool Philharmonic; and performing side-by-side with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Youth Orchestra members are also members of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, founded in 2015 as part of Liverpool Philharmonic’s commitment to developing young musical talent in Liverpool.
On Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra’s Great Northern Tour, Simon Emery, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Ensembles Director said:
‘As our professional colleagues in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra say, touring provides a unique opportunity to build camaraderie, team work and musicianship in the orchestra. We’re fortunate to play our concerts at home in Liverpool Philharmonic Hall; though our Great Northern tour is a fantastic opportunity to perform in some other great venues in great cities, and explore and understand more deeply the wonderful music we’ll be performing on tour.
‘Each and every one of our talented musicians in the Youth Orchestra are committed, dedicated and passionate about music and are very excited to be going on tour together, meeting and sharing experiences with other young musicians on our travels, and of course, having fun! We’re grateful to Liverpool Philharmonic and to donors Robin Bloxsidge and Nick Riddle for their support of this fantastic opportunity for the Youth Orchestra.’
