Catrin Finch and Cimarron

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Carlos Cuco Rojas, harpist, musician and leader of the Colombian band Cimarrón. As a mark of respect of Carlos' musical legacy and of Cimarrón, which was his passion and his life's work, this concert will go ahead as planned and harpist Duvan Rodolfo will play in place of Carlos Rojas.

Ten years after their last exhilarating collaboration, Welsh harpist Catrin Finch and Colombian joropo band Cimarrón meet again to tour the UK.

Catrin Finch is a remarkable and fearless artist. One of the world’s leading harp players, her career has featured both solo performances with the world’s top orchestras and collaborations with leading world music artists, including Toumani Diabate and Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita, with whom she forms ‘one of the most popular world music acts of this decade’ (Tim Cumming, Songlines on Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita).

The six-piece Grammy-nominated Cimarrón perform joropo dance music from the cattle-rearing plains of the Orinoco, rooted in a deep tradition defined by the mestizo mixed heritage of African, Spanish and indigenous cultures. Cimarrón make wild, untamed music that preserves the spirit of freedom found in one of the world’s most untouched regions. Fast paced and powerful, it’s music, with impetuous singing, amazing stomp dancing and fierce instrumental virtuosity of strings and percussion.

This is a rare chance to witness a thrilling global collaboration.
