Please note, due to the breakdown of our truck transporting instruments following a performance at Bristol Beacon, the Orchestra has had reduced rehearsal time. As a result, there has been a slight change to this afternoon’s programme to ensure the highest quality of performance. In consultation with the conductor and soloist, we have taken the decision to replace the Borisova-Ollas Concerto with Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D. We hope to perform the Borisova-Ollas Concerto at another date. Thank you for your understanding.Liadov Baba-Yaga

Shostakovich Symphony No.7, ‘Leningrad’

Victor Julien-Laferrière cello
A great city is under siege, and as the bullets fly, the defenders of Leningrad use loudspeakers to blast Shostakovich’s Seventh Symphony, defiant and colossal, at the Nazi forces. Everything about the Leningrad Symphony is supersized, and trust us: when Vasily Petrenko conducts it, you’ll feel the air shake.
This concert is approximately 3 hours long, including an interval. Please note, the concert starts at 2pm.
