Classic Intro - 6.15pm, Music Room
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Stephen Johnson can no longer attend this evening’s Classic Intro. We are grateful to Dr. Kenneth Smith, Senior Lecturer in Music, University of Liverpool, who will be talking about tonight’s programme. Are you sitting comfortably? Because Vasily Petrenko wants to tell you a story. There’s Baba Yaga, the Russian witch. There’s Richard Strauss, a young artist imagining the infinite, in dazzling orchestral sound.
And there’s Igor Stravinsky – celebrating the end of the Second World War amid the bright lights of Hollywood. Sheer entertainment, but when the superb Russian violinist Sergej Krylov makes his Liverpool debut with Shostakovich’s powerful First Violin Concerto, expect the emotion to run deep.
