Ensemble 10/10 is all about new worlds and Duncan Ward’s programme takes us further – through the cycles of life and death. Milhaud relates the creation of a world, whereas Samantha Fernando deals with imminent motherhood. Duncan Ward’s own piece, a reflection of his late Grandad’s love of the unspoilt nature of the Lancashire moors contrasts Brett Dean’s warning of urbanisation. And Anton Webern? Also a lover of nature, his Symphony distills elemental forces into crystalline purity.
