Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
Led by violinist Thelma Handy, the Orchestra showcase five bright, vibrant and perfectly playful pieces. There’s Bach’s lively Brandenburg Concerto No.3 and the irresistible romance of Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, as well as rarer gems from the likes of Marianna Martines – a big name in 18th century Vienna whose work is not nearly performed enough today. Meanwhile, in his last ever performance with the Orchestra, Jonathan Small delivers a masterclass on the oboe d’amore – the oboe’s softer and more reclusive cousin – via works by Bach and Dittersdorf.
