Phil Shotton & The Birthday Big Band

Saxophonist, woodwind player and bandleader, Phil Shotton celebrates his 40th birthday year with a fantastic gig celebrating his love of the big band genre.

Featuring wonderful big band arrangements which have been influential to him during his career to date, some of which have been specifically written for him, Phil leads the band through a programme designed to showcase Phil’s doubling skills on the saxophones and clarinets. An eclectic mix of swinging standards, soft ballads, bebop and funk this concert is bound to have something for everyone, all delivered in Phil’s trademark humorous and engaging style.

Phil Shotton regularly performs alongside many national and international jazz artists and has appeared at major jazz festivals, venues and music festivals throughout the country and abroad. Highly sought-after as both a performer and recording artist, Phil has released two albums under his own name and appeared on numerous recordings.

The Birthday Big Band is comprised of Phil’s friends and musical colleagues, drawing upon the talents of some of the finest jazz and big band musicians in the North of England. Hard Swinging, dynamic and engaging - this is a real power house of a big band!
