Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony

Wagner Overture, The Mastersingers
Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1
Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5

Andris Poga conductor
Daniel Müller-Schott cello

Tchaikovsky and Wagner didn’t really get along, but they both knew that big emotions need really big tunes. This concert is positively bursting with them – whether the pageantry and splendour of Wagner’s Mastersingers overture, or the unchained passion of Tchaikovsky’s sweeping Fifth Symphony: a story of tragedy, triumph and love, told in melodies that you’ll never forget.

Rising star Andris Poga, who's just been appointed as Principal Conductor of Norway's Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, is already big in Europe; he’s joined today by cellist Daniel Muller-Schott for Shostakovich’s action-packed Cold War thriller of a Cello Concerto.
