Liszt: Les Préludes
Mozart: Piano Concerto No.27 in B flat, K595
Ravel: Trio orch. Tortelier
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Yan Pascal Tortelier: conductor
Paul Lewis: piano
It’s amazing what you can do with a small stick. If you’ve seen Disney’s Fantasia, you’ll already know the story of Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – but just wait until you hear the fabulously French orchestral magic that guest conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier has worked on Ravel’s Trio.
First, though, we’ve got Merseyside’s very own keyboard magician Paul Lewis in Mozart’s poignant final piano concerto, and a true classic from times past: Liszt’s barnstorming Les Préludes – a marvellously noisy musical celebration of life itself. Retro doesn’t get any more entertaining!
