GLYNDEBOURNE FESTIVAL SCREENING

Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro

It truly is ‘a mad day’ at Count Almaviva’s estate just outside Seville as plots and promises are made and broken, hopes are raised and dashed, and disguises are donned and exposed, all to the strains of some of Mozart’s most sparkling and sublime music. This fresh take on a Mozart classic radiates 60s style.

Mozart based this evergreen comedy, his first full-scale collaboration with the great librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, on ‘La folle journée ou le mariage de Figaro’ (‘A Mad Day’, or ‘Figaro’s Wedding’). It is set in an upstairs-downstairs world populated by servants who aren’t servile and the masters they outsmart.

....this is a Figaro of rare grace, naturalness and charm...Pure joy.
Daily Telegraph

Captured live in 2012. Sung in Italian with English subtitles. Running time 170 mins, plus 60 min interval.

All our screenings will include a glass of fizz on arrival and a one hour interval, where you can enjoy a picnic, for the full Glyndebourne experience.

Picnics must be purchased in advance, and will be available for collection on the day.

Attenders of the Glyndebourne Film Screenings are welcome to pre-purchase picnic bags at these events (or reserve tables at nearby restaurants) and we will reserve seating in our Music Room for these patrons.  Unfortunately, we do not have enough seating in our public spaces to accommodate ticket buyers who want to bring their own picnics into the venue.
