Weber: Overture, Euryanthe
Brahms: Violin Concerto
Stephen Pratt: Symphonies of Time and Tide (World Premiere)
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Vasily Petrenko: conductor
Julian Rachlin: violin
Music can transport you, and today, Vasily Petrenko takes us on four fantastic journeys. In a flurry of sound, Weber sweeps us off to an age of chivalry. Brahms takes a holiday to the Alps, and writes a Violin Concerto drenched in sunshine and song: the one and only Julian Rachlin is the soloist tonight. Liverpool’s own Stephen Pratt has a 70th birthday surprise. And Edward Elgar cycles the lanes of Worcestershire, introducing us to Nimrod, Dorabella and all the other “friends pictured within” his gloriously tuneful and hugely popular Enigma Variations.
Julian Rachlin performs Brahms Violin Concerto with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
