Cellist and presenter Gethyn Jones and the Ensemble of St Luke’s present a recital of music by American composers, prefaced by a one-hour talk about the music.

From Barber to Bernstein, Ellington and beyond, this Discover session will take you on a colourful journey through the wonderful and varied notions of America and everything that it represents.

The ensemble will perform movements of works by Aaron Copland, Florence Price, John Adams, Philip Glass and the original setting of Barber’s moving“Adagio”, further illustrating the varied sound worlds of American composers.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions and find out what it is about the music of America that makes it so much a product of its place.
