It’s the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society’s 185th season, and we’ve packed our programme with incredible visiting artists, ambitious projects and exciting music. We can’t wait for you to discover all there is to look forward to over the coming year.
Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan showcases epic symphonies and eclectic repertoire, bringing us works including Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth, and a concert performance of Dvořák’s Rusalka. He’ll also present vibrant music from the Americas, and continue his exploration of Bruckner’s symphonies, this time taking on the Sixth.
A Liverpool local, and a former member of our Youth Company, we’re thrilled to announce clarinettist and composer Mark Simpson as our Artist in Residence. This season, we’ll not only see him perform, but we’ll hear the Orchestra take on some of his compositions too.
Superstar vocalists Carolyn Sampson and Sonya Yoncheva take to the stage, fabulous pianist Frank Dupree makes his Liverpool debut, and harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani returns to perform with Ensemble 10:10. We welcome guitarist Miloš to Hope Street, see saxophonist Jess Gillam perform Anna Clyne’s Glasslands, and conductor Kristiina Poska leads the Orchestra in Brahms’ Fourth Symphony. Liverpool’s own Sir Simon Rattle brings the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra to the Hall for a very special performance too.
And of course, our seasonal celebrations will be back, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir uniting with the Orchestra for our annual Spirit of Christmas concerts and Handel’s Messiah. Throughout the season, the Choir will also perform Brahms’ A German Requiem, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius and an a cappella concert featuring a new work commissioned especially for them.
