About Roderick Williams with the Carducci Quartet

A celebration of Schubert

“Schubert’s piano writing in Die schöne Müllerin is perfect, idiomatic, delightful. There is no single, strong reason to transcribe this music for instruments; pianists are well able to conjure all the atmospheres and textures by themselves. However, Schubert’s affinity for string chamber music, and choral music, often results in linear part-writing within those piano parts which feels like an open invitation for scoring. My desire to perform with chamber groups is more borne of evangelism for the art song repertoire." – Roderick Williams
