Lula Nova

✨lula nova✨ is the new project from Liverpool-based musician Luciana Mercer creating hypnotic, orchestral, dream-pop songs. 

Luciana has been at the heart of the Liverpool music scene since 2008, cutting her teeth in the Mello Mello and Kazimier scene and releasing an EP with Kazimier Records in 2011. Since then she has toured worldwide with multimedia, avant-garde pop group Stealing Sheep, releasing 6 studio albums. 

With the drum kit as her first instrument, she performs with Silent K, She Drew The Gun, Bill-Ryder Jones, Mirra Maze, Maxïmo Park, The Classic Double, and has weekly local jazz residencies with The TuneSteppers and The Jubilee Stompers.  She is also featured on the new Panchiko record and remixing the likes of Pictish Trail.

With focus shifting to the release of her 2027 debut album, Lula hosts a residency ’Oscillations’ at QUARRY in Liverpool creating an ongoing series of unique collaborations between local artists that continue to inspire the ‘Lulasphere’. Lula’s debut album launch on the 23rd of April will include the artists from the Oscillations dimension.  

Her debut album ‘Blossoms’ is the crystallisation of Luciana’s unique vocal style and approach to writing and arrangement across five compositions.

Her guitar loops and patterns, together with Martin Smith’s brass harmonies, draw you into an otherworldly journey through the 'Lulasphere’ full of shifting tempos and layered percussion which form the backdrop to beautiful, melodic vocals delivered in an intimate, pure style. 

Lula’s live shows vary between stripped down arrangements for guitar, onmichord and organ bass pedals, to more complex arrangements for guitar, vocals, brass and woodwind. For the album launch in April 2027, she is developing a 9 piece ensemble, as well as the Oscillations dimension, to perform the album with the full energy it was recorded.
