In Harmony Liverpool Philharmonic

In Harmony Liverpool Philharmonic is one of our flagship music-making programmes, working with young people aged 0-18 in some of the city’s most underserved areas since 2009. 

In Harmony makes sure that each of the 1,800 children in our participating North Liverpool primary schools learns an instrument and makes orchestral music every week, free of charge. 

By age 11, our young musicians will be playing at ABRSM Grade 2 standard or higher – and performing everywhere from community venues and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to London’s Royal Albert Hall.  

50% of these children continue with us into secondary school through our In Harmony Youth Hubs – you can read more about those here. 

Some go even further, joining prestigious groups such as Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Youth Academy Orchestra, National Children’s Orchestra, Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra’s Inspire programme.  

But there’s more to it than music. 

Targeted at those with the greatest need and fewest resources – over 40% of our participants are classed as living in poverty – In Harmony builds confidence, wellbeing, skills and resilience, giving young people the chance to learn, perform and collaborate with professional musicians, international stars and other children too. We’re using music to help young people dream bigger and set off on a path to success – establishing the foundations that change lives.
