Our Commitments

We’re building an organisation that fully reflects our city, and brings different communities together. Here’s how we’re doing it.   

We champion equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging throughout our organisation, our activities, and in the artists and music genres we present.  

Our team is a dynamic group of people from all walks of life, united in our passion for music. We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected and able to thrive.    

We've been awarded Gold on the Attitude is Everything’s Live Events Access Charter, in recognition of our work to make our organisation more accessible for disabled audiences, staff and artists. We’re also a strategic partner of PiPA who work to improve working conditions for parents and carers in the performing arts.  

We continue to build representation in the music industry through our partnership with Black Lives in Music, including their 10 Point Plan for Inclusive Recruitment.  

We’re proud to work with local partners, including Liverpool City Region's Race Equality Hub, Department of Work and Pensions, Liverpool City Council, Everton in the Community, Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, Transforming Lives Company and Strawberry Fields.  

Recently, we established a Global Majority Working Group to help us better understand how people experience our organisation and to strengthen inclusion, belonging and a sense of welcome for everyone. 

This year, we’re working hard to: 

• Cut energy use in the Hall and Friary by 5% each year by improving how we manage lighting, heating and equipment, and by making our buildings more energy efficient. 
• Invest in greener, more efficient buildings and equipment, including LED lighting, heat pumps and improvements to the main building. 
• Help staff play their part in tackling climate change through carbon literacy training, regular updates and sharing progress. 
• Reduce emissions from travel by encouraging audiences, staff, musicians and visiting companies to choose lower-carbon ways to travel where possible. 
• Use fewer materials and create less waste, including reducing printing and cutting waste across our bars, catering and front-of-house services. 
• Offer more sustainable products and services by choosing environmentally responsible products, reducing packaging and working with local suppliers whenever possible. 
• Share our progress regularly with audiences, staff, partners and funders, and use our networks to encourage wider action on environmental sustainability. 

We’re committed to helping young people develop their passion for music and shape the future of our city region.  

In doing this, we recognise that we have a duty of care to everyone participating in our activities and ensembles, or using the building through activities organised by their school or other youth and community groups. We wish to ensure that children and adults are safe and protected from harm whilst engaging in music-making, whether on- or off-site. We’re committed to practice that protects children, young people and adults at risk from harm. All Trustees, staff, musicians and volunteers in this organisation accept and recognise their responsibilities to develop awareness of the issues that cause children or adults at risk harm; and to work together with other agencies to ensure appropriate arrangements within Liverpool Philharmonic to identify, assess, and support those children and adults at risk who are suffering, or likely to suffer, harm.
