Russian Revolution

The Rock
Piano Concerto No.2
Scherzo à la Russe
Symphonic Dances
Vasily Petrenko
Alexandre Tharaud

Rachmaninov’s sumptuous Symphonic Dances are the sound of a great artist in exile, drenched in joy, regret, and those wonderful Rachmaninov melodies.

Vasily Petrenko has matched it with Rachmaninov’s youthful poem of love and loss, The Rock, plus an outrageously jazzy bit of fun from Rachmaninov’s Hollywood neighbour Stravinsky.

And when you hear pianist Alexandre Tharaud’s recent recording of this concerto (released in October 2016) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, you’ll know to expect far more than just a brief encounter with Rachmaninov’s world-famous Second Piano Concerto!
