Mendelssohn Midsummer Night’s Dream: Overture, Nocturne and Scherzo
Schubert Overture in the Italian Style in D major
Tchaikovsky Suite No.4 in G Mozartiana
Vasily Petrenko conductor
Mendelssohn was just 18 when he wrote his famous overture. He travelled 80 miles through the snow to hear his first big public success but it was 16 years before he wrote the rest of the music for Shakespeare’s iconic play. Tchaikovsky called Mozart “my god”, and his musical homage was to take four pieces by the composer, make them his own, and celebrate “these pearls of musical art”. Glorious music!
Please note the capacity is very limited (c. 330 seats total) and seating will be done on a socially distanced (2 metre) basis. To book single tickets please call the Box Office on 0151 709 3789.
