Dag Wirén Serenade for Strings
Nielsen Flute Concerto
Beethoven Symphony No.8
Andrew Manze conductor
Cormac Henry flute
Dag Wirén once wrote the Swedish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. It wasn’t a hit, but his catchy and hugely popular String Serenade had already made his name. As a fan of Carl Nielsen, he would have been delighted to be paired with Nielsen’s idyllic yet eccentric Flute Concerto performed in these concerts by the Orchestra’s own Cormac Henry. Nielsen called Beethoven “the revolutionary”. Certainly the Eighth Symphony broke new ground even for Beethoven - drama and lyricism abound alongside tongue-in-cheek moments and a few surprises.
Please note the capacity is very limited (c. 330 seats total) and seating will be done on a socially distanced (2 metre) basis. To book single tickets please call the Box Office on 0151 709 3789.
