Beethoven's Fifth Symphony

Variations on a Theme of Haydn
Cello Concerto No. 1
Cello Concerto
Symphony No. 5
Alpesh Chauhan
Pablo Ferrández

“Da da da dum – that’s one of the biggest hits in history”. Take it from Billy Joel: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is the one piece of classical music that simply everybody knows – well, the first four notes anyway! If that’s all you know, you’re about to make an incredible discovery. A superb young British conductor, Alpesh Chauhan, is joined by rising star Pablo Ferrández in two very different cello concertos; one from 18th-century Austria, and one from a Hollywood thriller. First, though, a tribute to Haydn from his greatest fan – Brahms.
