The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir are a friendly bunch. Our day jobs range from students to doctors to teachers and more. We’re all from different backgrounds, with different types of singing experience. But we all have one thing in common – a total passion for symphonic choral music. If that’s you too, we want to hear you!
Open to all voice types, you can apply at any point throughout the year and auditions are held across the season. Once you’re in, there’s more to enjoy than rehearsals, concerts and tours – you’ll take part in dedicated workshops and receive individual vocal coaching too.

Do I need to be able to read music?
Yes – you don’t need to be a perfect sight-reader, but because we learn music at such a pace, we’re looking for singers who can confidently read staff notation.
Where and when do the Choir rehearse?
The Choir rehearse on Monday evenings from 6.30pm – and sometimes more often in the lead up to concerts. Rehearsals take place at The Friary, Bute Street (L3 3BX) or Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Hope Street (L1 9BP).
The Friary is just a 15-minute walk from Lime Street station, or there’s a free car park on site.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
You must be 18 or above to apply for the Choir. If you’re younger than that, click here to head to our Youth Company pages you’ll find the perfect ensemble there.
How much does membership cost?
Membership costs £200 per year, which you can pay monthly over 10 months (October-July). Some concessions are available – get in touch with Louise below to find out more.
What does the audition involve?
Auditions are simple and straight-forward. You’ll sing a short piece of your own choice – just make sure you pick something that shows off the qualities of your voice well. Then there’ll be a few vocal exercises and a quick study exercise to see how you learn music from a score. We’ll send more details over with your audition invitation.
