It isn't just simply a choir and an orchestra. It offers you so much more.
For young people aged 11-23, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company offers members of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Academy Orchestra and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir a range of performance and development opportunities.
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir and Youth Orchestra perform regularly in Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, including new commissions, collaborations and side by side performances with professional musicians. Throughout the year, Youth Company members have access to a range of performances, experiences and opportunities led by professional musicians and artists from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and experts from a range of genres and backgrounds, including jazz, folk, pop, early music and musical theatre.
Liverpool Philharmonic welcomes artists from around the world who work with members of Youth Company in master classes or workshops. Youth Company has hosted master classes by a range of artists, including Andrew Manze (conductor), Jennifer Johnson (singer), Christian Lindberg (conductor, composer and trombonist), Julian Rachlin (violinist), Francois Leleux (oboist), Roderick Williams (singer) and Nicola Benedetti (violinist).
Get involved in as much as you can, it isn't just simply a choir and an orchestra, it offers you so much more and if you take advantage of that, your experience will be all the more rewarding.
Youth Company members can also apply to become Rushworth Young Composers, working with a composition mentor to write new music for Youth Company to perform, and receiving support and guidance to develop composition skills and style, as well as learning more about composition as a career. Composition and conducting workshops also happen across the year for all Youth Company members to develop their skills.
Liverpool Philharmonic is committed to enhancing Youth Company members’ employment opportunities by offering work experience exclusively to Youth Company members to get an insight into orchestra management, artistic planning, event management, development, marketing, learning and more. Our annual Music Industry Careers Day welcomes organisations and individuals from across the UK to talk about the range of careers open to people who are passionate about music, and audition advice sessions are open to young people interested in auditioning for music college/conservatoire or university courses.
Liverpool Philharmonic promotes health and well-being for Youth Company members through all activity, including regular sessions for instrumentalists and vocalists in Alexander Technique, Healthy Strings Playing and changing voices.
Youth Company helps to develop you as a musician with all the extra opportunities available as well as the Youth Choir/Orchestra. You will learn so much and you will definitely make new friends and memories along the way!
