Love Music: Investing in Excellence

In the 10 years since his arrival in Liverpool, the unique partnership between Vasily Petrenko and the musicians of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic has elevated our Orchestra and our Choirs to a new level of artistic excellence and international recognition.

Vasily is now setting out his ambitions to take us towards 2020. With your support, we could realise the artistic vision of a conductor who will work tirelessly with the Orchestra to make extraordinary musical things happen in Liverpool.

If you would like to support this campaign, you can donate online by credit card or direct debit, or you can call a member of our Fundraising Team on 0151 210 2921.

Here is a taste of Vasily's ambitions, and what your donation would support:

A complete Mahler cycle in 2020
Works like this require a huge number of musicians and singers on stage, and can only be performed with the help of additional funding, achieved from our generous individual donors.

One semi-staged opera each season
Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to do something like our 2013 Tosca production with Bryn Terfel every year? Here is a quote taken from a 4* review by The Telegraph: was only really Petrenko and the orchestra who matched Terfel's five-star quality [... ] Petrenko's handling of balance, flow and large-scale dramatic architecture was nothing short of masterful.
The Telegraph 2013

To include Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, The Firebird and Petrushka, Rachmaninov's Spring Cantata, and to continue the recordings of Vaughan Williams' repertoire with Andrew Manze.

We take our role as a unique ambassador for Liverpool very seriously, and touring the Orchestra is an important part of showcasing our great city. With your help, we hope to tour again to Japan, Europe and other territories for the first time.

We'll invest further in attracting and working with the world's most talented artists to create memorable performances of exceptional artistic merit.

New work
Since 1840 we have commissioned and premièred more than 280 new works, more than half of these in the last 10 years alone.

Health and wellbeing
We'll work with physiotherapists and psychologists to ensure that our players have the best support in place to perform to their full potential.

With your support, we can be more ambitious, programme more of the world's greatest music and inspire generations of musicians and music-lovers. This is my invitation to you, to share in an extraordinary adventure. Please give as generously as you can. Thank you.
