Post Concert Question Time-Will take place 15 minutes after the concert ends (Music Room) with Andrew Manze and Marc-André Hamelin on Thursday 11 January

Some hear it as a mighty river of music; for others, it’s the sound of a great nation awakening to freedom. What’s for sure, though, is that from pastoral opening to majestic finish, Sibelius’s Second Symphony is a magnificent musical journey, one crowned with a tune you’ll never forget. Andrew Manze’s concerts with the Orchestra are always keenly awaited, and today he’s bringing with him a true giant of 21st-century piano playing – the Liverpool debut of Marc-André Hamelin. Brahms’s tempestuous First Piano Concerto is a colossal challenge for any player, but Hamelin has fingers of steel!

Marc-Andre Hamelin performs Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
