Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
- Hungarian Rhapsody No.2
- Piano Concerto in G
- Suite, Mother Goose
- Suite, The Miraculous Mandarin
- Gilbert Varga
- Louis Schwizgebel
In Hungary, they like their music spicy. Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin was considered so racy that it was actually banned in the 1920s – but returning guest-conductor Gilbert Varga has Hungarian blood, and tonight he conducts the suite, live and uncensored.
Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody sets things fizzing, before Leeds International Piano Competition prize-winner Louis Schwizgebel brings all his poetry and panache to Ravel’s dreamy Piano Concerto – music born under the Basque sun. Before things overheat, we’ll take a trip to Mother Goose’s enchanted garden: musical fairy tales for boys and girls of all ages.
