Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Crosby Symphony Orchestra: Heroes and Demons
- Night on the Bare Mountain
- Piano Concerto No.3
- Symphony No.5
- Juan Ortuno
- William Bracken
The all Russian programme starts with the demonic Night on the Bare Mountain, made famous by Disney’s Fantasia. As for Shostakovich’s 5th symphony – is it a ‘Soviet Artist’s Response to Justified Criticism’, or a hero’s heartfelt expression of a Nation suffering under Stalin? The debate may rage to this day, but no one can doubt the huge emotional impact of one of the most popular symphonies of the 20th Century.
A concert helping to fundraise for local charities. Local teenage sensation William Bracken (son of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra cellists Ian and Hilary) makes his Liverpool Philharmonic debut with possibly one of the most demanding concertos in the repertoire. This exciting young talent was named Chester Young Musician of the Year in 2016.
