When Stravinsky turned to the music of the 18th century for inspiration, critics joked that he’d gone “Back to Bach”. In fact, he could hardly have done much better – because from the bustling celebration of JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos to the limitless energy and invention of his harpsichord concertos, music simply doesn’t get any more satisfying – or timeless – than this. and we’ve got one of the world’s most charismatic harpsichordists to play it: the one and only Mahan Esfahani. Joint Leader of the Orchestra James Clark directs with two of Stravinsky’s salutes to the Baroque era.
