Current Principal Partners

Mersey Docks and Harbour Company has supported the RLPO since 1994, and has been a sponsor of aspects of the RLPO programme for over five years. In 2004 the company decided that the run-up to the 2008 European Capital of Culture would be an ideal time to build upon this strong association by signing a four-year agreement to become the RLPO’s first Principal Partner.
Bill Bowley, Director of Legal Services for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, said: “The Philharmonic and Mersey Docks share a long history of playing very different but significant roles in the life of this maritime city. We are delighted that as a prominent force in the commercial sector of Liverpool, Mersey Docks can also make this own contribution to the enhancement of this renowned orchestra.“
In 2005 investment management company Rensburg Sheppards joined the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company as the RLPO’s second Principal Partner. Founded in Liverpool in 1873, Rensburg Sheppards has been a regular sponsor of the RLPO for many years. Martin Cooke, Head of Investment at Rensburg Sheppards, said: “We have had a long association with the Phil, which goes back to our founder, Henry Rensburg. We are delighted to build on this and to help it play its prominent role as Liverpool moves forward to its year as European Capital of Culture 2008.“
Michael Elliott, Chief Executive of the RLPO, said: “The four-year commitment of Rensburg Sheppards as our Prinicpal Partner, joining the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company and our Media Partner, Classic FM, is a vote of confidence in the ambition and achievements of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Our partnership is another excellent example of the mutually beneficial relationship that can exist between culture and commerce.”
