RLPO Recordings
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has a long and distinguished history of recordings, and many of these, from the 1940s to the present day, are available in the record catalogues.
The RLPO's extensive discography includes the complete symphonies of Beethoven (with Sir Charles Mackerras), Nielsen (Douglas Bostock), Vaughan Williams (Vernon Handley) and William Alwyn (David Lloyd-Jones), and music by Britten, Dvorak, Mahler, Rachmaninov, Smetana, Strauss and Suk. A number of recordings also feature the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir. A selection of extracts from the orchestra's archive can be listened to here. The Orchestra works with many of today's leading recording companies including Naxos, Nimbus and Universal.
The RLPO was the first orchestra to launch its own recording label, RLPO Live, in 1998. The initiative came from the musicians themselves; each recording is made with the in-house recording company, Merseyside Sound Recordings. Many RLPO Live recordings are currently being reissued by Avie Records, see Avie Record's website for more information.
We have a selection of RLPO recordings available to purchase online at our Music Store.
