Simon Chappell - Bass Trombone

Simon Chappell is the RLPO's Principal Bass Trombone player.


Q. How long have you been with the RLPO?
A. 5 years

Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. Playing trombone in Besses Boys Band at the age of 9-10, alongside my two brothers (Trombone/ Tuba) with my Dad conducting

Q. Do you play any other instruments?
A. Piano, but very badly

Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. Trumpet, they get all the good tunes

Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. Forester

Q. If you could take a recording of one piece of music to a desert island, what would it be?
A. Peanut Vendor (Stan Kenton)

Q. Which piece of music do you most enjoy playing?
A. Alpine Symphony, Richard Strauss

A. Fly in the Loaf

Q. What do you do to relax in your free time?
A. Taking my German Shepherd for a long walk with my girls (family)
