Stephen Mann - Cello

Stephen Mann is a Cello Section player with the Orchestra, and joined the Phil in 1984.

Q. How long have you been with the RLPO?
A. 22 years 

Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. Chorister at St Michaels Bramhall

Q. Do you play any other instruments?
A. Organ, Treble and Bass recorders

Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. Contrabasson

Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. Male model - earn lots of money?! 

Q. If you could take a recording of one piece of music to a desert island, what would it be?
A. Requiem - Duruflé

Q. Which piece of music do you most enjoy playing?
A. Clair de Lune – vierre.  Perhaps one of the most expressive pieces ever written for the organ

Q. Which personality (historical, musical or otherwise – living or dead!) would you most like to share a bottle of wine with?
A. Dorothy Papadakos – ex organist of Cathedral St John Divine New York – fantastic improviser!

Q. Where’s your favourite place to eat/drink in Liverpool?
A. A middle-eastern café opposite the Phil

Q. What do you do to relax in your free time?
A. Spend quality time with partner
