Stephan Mayer is a Violin One section player with the Phil, joining the Orchestra in 2001.

Q. How long have you been with the RLPO?
A. Since May 2001

Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. Conducting (with baton) along to an LP of music by Wagner (6 months old, and have photos to prove it)

Q. Do you play any other instruments?
A. Piano (badly), viola (even worse)

Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. Bass Clarinet - I love the sound

Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. Engineer/ designer of some sort - as long as it is car related

Q. If you could take a recording of one piece of music to a desert island, what would it be?
A. Sibelius Violin Concerto

Q. Which piece of music do you most enjoy playing?
A. Fanfare for the Common Man by Copland... no strings!

Q. Which personality (historical, musical or otherwise – living or dead!) would you most like to share a bottle of wine with?
A. Ferruccio Lamborghini - made fast cars and great wines

Q. Where’s your favourite place to eat/drink in Liverpool?
A. Our canteen - 'Cafe Carol'

Q. What do you do to relax in your free time?
A. Cycling and walking

A. Seychelles
