Rachael Pankhurst - Cor Anglais
Rachael plays Cor Anglais with the RLPO, joining the Orchestra in 2001.
Q. How long have you been with the RLPO?
A. Since April 2001
Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. I had a tape of Theseus & the Minotaur and loved the music that accompanied the story - Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade
Q. Do you play any other instruments?
A. Piano
Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. Cello - I did try for a bit at school but without much success
Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. Primary School teacher
Q. If you could take a recording of one piece of music to a desert island, what would it be?
A. Dietrich Fischer Diskeau singing Schubert Songs
Q. Which piece of music do you most enjoy playing?
A. Anything by Rachmaninov - Symphonic Dances, 3rd Symphony... they all have great Cor Anglais parts!
Q. Which personality (historical, musical or otherwise – living or dead!) would you most like to share a bottle of wine with?
A. Matthew Macfadyen (but don't tell my husband!)
Q. Where’s your favourite place to eat/drink in Liverpool?
A. Maharaja on London Road for interesting curries
Q. What do you do to relax in your free time? Q. Where’s your favourite holiday destination?
A. Walking in the Lake District, catching up with family and friends, shopping for shoes!
A. Lake District. Have always wanted to visit the Canadian Rockies.... Maybe next year.
