Andrew Cornall, Vice President, A&R of EMI Classics joins Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Board
Former Executive Director of Liverpool Philharmonic ‘...delighted to maintain links with this unique organisation.’
Andrew Cornall, Vice President, Artists & Repertoire of EMI Classics has joined the Board of Directors of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, following the company’s AGM last night. He brings over 30 years’ experience in the classical music business as an award-winning record producer and in his former role with Liverpool Philharmonic as Executive Director (Artistic Policy – Orchestra & Ensembles).
Andrew joined EMI Classics from Liverpool Philharmonic in January this year with responsibility for all artists and repertoire decisions for EMI Classics worldwide. As Liverpool Philharmonic’s Executive Director from 2004 – 2010, Andrew led artistic policy for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and its associated ensembles, including contemporary music group, Ensemble 10/10, making an immense contribution to its renaissance under the baton of Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko. Before joining Liverpool Philharmonic, he spent 27 years as a Grammy Award-winning Senior Executive Producer with the Decca Music Group.
Andrew joins a board led by Chairman and Chief Executive of The Mersey Partnership Lorraine Rogers, Deputy Chairman and Senior Partner with Amion Consulting Tim Johnston, Liverpool City Council Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism Cllr Wendy Simon, Chief Executive of Youth Music Christina Coker OBE, Partner with Brabners Chaffe Street Solicitors and Chairman of Hope Street Hotel Dr Tony Harvey, Senior Director with TalkTalk Jonathan Stone and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra musicians Alan Pendlebury and Martin Richardson.

Andrew Cornall
A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester, specialising in composition, Andrew went on to study for an MA at the University of East Anglia, concentrating on recording techniques and research. His appointment as assistant producer at the Decca Record Company started a 27 year career with the company rising to Senior Executive Producer and encompassed work with all the major Decca artists of the period including Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Georg Solti and particularly long term relationships with Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Herbert Blomstedt. During that period he also re-launched Decca’s Argo label with its concentration on British and American music, and particularly living composers producing multiple discs by Michael Nyman, Mark Anthony Turnage, Graham Fitkin, Aaron Kernis, Michael Torke and Michael Daugherty.
In 2004 Andrew joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic as Executive Director, lead a transformation of the Orchestra’s artistic policy, most notably the appointment of Vasily Petrenko as Chief Conductor and an active commissioning policy, which between 2007-2011 saw the commissioning and premiere of over 60 new works across all parts of the organisation. Andrew was Grammy Producer of the Year in 1994 and has adjudicated on the panels of the Fulbright Awards for Composition, the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards and Masterprize. In January 2011, he was appointed Vice President, A & R, at EMI Classics and in September, was appointed to the board of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
