Liverpool Philharmonic & Vasily Petrenko Win Orchestral Recording Award in Classical Music 'Oscars'
Press Release: Thursday 6 October 2011
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko were awarded 'Orchestral Recording of the Year' for their recording of Shostakovich’s Symphony No.10 in the Gramophone Awards, often called the 'Oscars' of the classical music world, at a prestigious Awards lunch at London’s Dorchester Hotel today.
The Orchestra's recording of Symphony No. 10, released in September 2010, is one of the first five volumes in a critically acclaimed cycle of the complete symphonies by Shostakovich to be released on CD. All the recording are released on the Naxos label and the award recognises the quality of the musicianship of the Orchestra and Petrenko, and the continued high-quality that the independent record label delivers at budget price.
The recording partnership with Naxos also won the Ochestral Recording of the Year award in the 2009 Gramophone Awards for the Orchestra and Petrenko's recording of Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony.
