Liverpool Philharmonic launches its new summer programme of events this week with the announcement of over ninety rock, pop and roots concerts, film, comedy, learning and family events that take place between April and September this year.
The full line up will be on sale from Friday 1 April and highlights include concerts by Rumer, Katie Melua, Kerry Ellis & Brian May, Madeleine Peyroux, Tango Fire, David Grey, Nils Lofgren, Don McLean, two nights for comedian Jimmy Carr and an extremely rare date with the global reggae icon Jimmy Cliff on 1 September.
Liverpool Philharmonic also hinted at a strong autumn line up with a date for Echo & The Bunnymen (30 September). There is the return of the Irish Sea Sessions, the critically acclaimed concert, which sees musicians from Liverpool and Ireland come together. The inaugural event took place at Liverpool Philharmonic in 2010 and will be reprised at the venue (21 October) this year before touring to Belfast’s Ulster Hall and the Derry/Londonderry Millennium Forum.
Also on sale from Friday 1 April is an evening with the impossibly cool US twelve-piece orchestra, Pink Martini (15 October); one of the most original and distinctive British acts, Tindersticks, will perform live scores to accompany cinema projections by the world-renowned French filmmaker Claire Denis (18 October); and a celebratory folk/roots double bill marking Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick’s 70th birthdays, when they play with one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the contemporary folk scene, Lau (29 September).
More information about a selection of upcoming concerts can be found in press releases in the download section of this page. You can also browse the April to September What's On Guide online on Issuu.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s current concert season includes the popular Summer Pops. The Orchestra’s 2011/2012 season, commencing in September is announced on Friday 6 May.
Michael Eakin, Chief Executive, said,
‘The quality of the programme that we are launching today, including appearances by Jimmy Cliff, Echo & The Bunnymen, Madeleine Peyroux and Tindersticks, shows that despite the current challenging climate for all arts organisations, we remain committed to providing Liverpool with a world-class orchestra, contemporary music performances with international artists and learning events’.
