Liverpool Philharmonic, one of the UK’s most forward-looking music organisations.

Liverpool Philharmonic Challenge Fund 2012 - Supported by the Kenneth Stern Trust

In this increasingly challenging economic climate, we appeal to music lovers to support Liverpool Philharmonic by donating to our Fundraising Challenge Appeal. For 2012 The Kenneth Stern Trust and a number of private donors have generously agreed to match any donation made to this appeal up to £30,000.

In 2011 our donors helped Liverpool Philharmonic to achieve amazing things on and off the stage in a very difficult economic climate. Despite significant public funding cuts, Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's dynamic musical partnership in concerts, recordings and broadcasts became ever more widely acclaimed.

They won - for the second time in three years - the Gramophone Award for Orchestral Recording of the Year for their recording of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 and continued to dazzle audiences at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and at concert halls across the UK and internationally. Our inspirational learning programme went from strength to strength, offering exciting opportunities to get involved in live music making of the highest quality for thousands of people each year, including more than 22,000 children throughout the region.

Inspired by last year's success, the Trustees of the Kenneth Stern Trust have offered, once again, to match, pound for pound, every donation made to this year's fundraising campaign up to a maximum of £20,000.  A number of private donors have generously pledged an additional £10,000 towards the match fund enabling us to double any donation made up to a total of £30,000.

That means that your donation will have a greater impact than ever before: a £100 donation will be worth £200 to us. (£225 if you are able to Gift Aid your donation!)

Last year's fundraising campaign was only the start of what will be an ongoing challenge to cherish and protect this Liverpool cultural icon. Liverpool Philharmonic was born thanks to the generosity of people who loved music; it will continue to thrive for as long as music lovers share in our belief that the thrill of a symphony orchestra playing live in one of the finest halls in the UK are things worth nurturing today and, just as our founders did, for many generations to come. A donation to this year's Challenge Fund will make a real difference to our organisation.

Your gift will support:

•  World-class performances by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and visiting musicians and ensembles

•  Brilliant artistic leadership and vision through our Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko

•  Our efforts to develop new audiences through schools' and family concerts, bringing classical music into the lives of people for the first time

•  Our education programme and our commitment to lifelong learning and participation in music
