Vasily Petrenko Appointed Chief Conductor of Oslo Philharmonic from August 2013
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Chief Conductor has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic for a period of four years, commencing with the 2013/14 season. Petrenko’s extended contract with Liverpool Philharmonic currently runs to 2015. He is also Principal Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Michael Eakin, Chief Executive of Liverpool Philharmonic said:
“The entire orchestra and staff of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic congratulate Vasily on his appointment as Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic. It is a great testament to what he and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra have achieved together in Liverpool, making their mark on the international stage, that Vasily should be invited to this position with another of Europe’s leading orchestras. It is a tribute to Vasily too, that along with his peers, including Valery Gergiev and Gustavo Dudamel, he should hold positions as Chief Conductor of two major international orchestras. Vasily’s current contract extension commences with the beginning of the 2012 season and runs to 2015, during which time he will continue to lead the orchestra in concerts, tours and recordings and in due course, we will begin discussions on future seasons.”
Vasily Petrenko said; “This appointment will allow me to work in depth and in detail with another leading orchestra as we have and will continue to do here. We have come a long way together since I came to Liverpool as Principal Conductor in 2006. Every rehearsal and concert is a very great pleasure and I feel great happiness, and privileged to be on stage with our musicians in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. I am very excited by the progress we are making together in Liverpool and by our plans for concerts, tours and recordings. I think there is a lot we have yet to achieve together and if our support from audiences and supporters stays with us, we can reach new heights to 2015 and beyond.”
