International Appointment for Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Executive Director
Andrew Cornall, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Executive Director (Artistic Policy – Artists & Ensembles) has been appointed Vice President, Artists and Repertoire, with recording company EMI Classics. He will take up his new role on 1 January 2011. This key role will have responsibility for all artists and repertoire decisions for EMI Classics worldwide.
Andrew joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in June 2004 from Decca Music Group, where he had been Senior Executive Producer since 1995. During six and half years with the organisation he has led artistic policy for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and its associated ensembles, including contemporary music group, Ensemble 10/10.
On Andrew’s appointment, Michael Eakin, Chief Executive of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic said:
“I, and all of us at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, congratulate Andrew on this international appointment. He is an exceptional and talented colleague, who has made an immense contribution to the renaissance of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of our Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko. It is a measure of the quality of his work here that he should have been approached for this significant appointment.
“We are beginning the process to find his successor immediately. Under the baton of our Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko, we have built a major national and international profile and attracted critical acclaim for our concerts, we have a significant and award-winning recording programme and plans for international touring. We expect there will be considerable interest from experienced, high calibre candidates who will want to work with our Chief Conductor and the Orchestra at this very exciting time in our history.”
Andrew Cornall said: “Since I joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in 2004 I have seen many fantastic things happen at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and in Liverpool itself. It has been a privilege to work with so many hugely talented musicians and colleagues here at the Phil as well as with many partners throughout the City.
I can count these years at the Phil as being special years in my life and I look forward to maintaining my links with this unique organisation and watching and enjoying its continued successes with great pleasure.”
NOTES TO EDITOR
The award-winning Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is a symphony orchestra at the height of its powers and, during the last five years, has built a global reputation for excellence under the leadership of Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko.
The orchestra is spearheading the acclaimed In Harmony community development programme in the North West and is increasingly playing for Liverpool on the world stage. In 2010 alone it has toured in Switzerland, Spain and in October tours to China for the first time, including supporting the City of Liverpool’s presence at the Shanghai Expo. It is celebrating 10 successful years of its groundbreaking media partnership with Classic FM, the UK’s biggest commercial radio station, has secured a new media partnership deal with international satellite broadcaster BSkyB’s arts channel, Sky Arts, and currently has one of the most significant recording programmes of any orchestra worldwide.
As well as the orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic includes a choir, contemporary music group Ensemble 10:10, chamber music, youth orchestra and youth choirs, and an extensive education programme. It also runs the Grade 2 listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, one of the UK’s premier arts and entertainment venues, presenting a wide-ranging programme featuring many international artists.
