Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2010/11 Season Announced

Vasily Petrenko leads the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards Ensemble of the Year in 18 concerts in Liverpool and additional concerts in other cities across the UK, covering a wide range of music including his signature repertoire. He continues his journey through the music of Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Mahler and Elgar; as well conducting music by Tchaikovsky Sibelius, Beethoven, Prokofiev and Strauss.

The 2010/11 continues the Mahler Edition marking the composer’s anniversaries introduce a major new series, Made in Britain focussing on outstanding British artists and music, and the UK’s role as a major exporter and source of musical innovation and talent. 

Distinguished visiting conductors include the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Conductor Emeritus, Libor Pešek who opens the season, Conductor Laureate, Sir Charles Mackerras. Vladimir Ashkenazy returns to Liverpool to contribute to the Mahler Edition.

A roll-call of international soloists heading to Liverpool the pianists Simon Trpčeski, Helene Grimaud and Pascal Rogé, who keeps it in the family playing Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with his wife, Ami. Violinists include Alina Ibragimova, Pavel Šporcl, Ilya Gringolts and James Ehnes.

The soprano Lesley Garrett will present and sing in the much-loved  annual Carol Concerts and there is a third collaboration with the Liverpool-based European Opera Centre in Mendelssohn’s comic opera The Wedding of Comacho, conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

The 10th anniversary of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s partnership with Classic FM is celebrated in concerts and events throughout the season which is completed the Rodewald Chamber Music, new music from the award-winning Ensemble 10/10 and the popular Family Concerts complete the season.
