Robin Haggart - Tuba

Robin Haggart joined the Orchestra in 1996 as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's Tuba player.

Q. What is your instrument/ position/ job title in the Orchestra?
A.
I am the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's tuba player.

Q. When did you join the Orchestra?
A.
I joined the orchestra in September 1996

Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A.
I come from quite a musical family, so my earliest memories are of my dad playing the piano and singing with my mum, and also my two brothers practising the trumpet.

Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A.
As a Scot, I'd love to be able to play the bagpipes. In the orchestra, I sometimes envy the soaring melodies that the cellos get to play.

Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A.
Something involving being outdoors and helping people. A paramedic perhaps.

Q. What’s on your record/CD/MP3 Player/Spotify Playlist right now?
A.
The CD in my car stereo just now is Muse's new album "The Resistance".

Q. What is your favourite Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra recording?
A.
Lots to choose from, but I enjoyed making, and enjoy hearing, our set of the complete symphonies of Carl Nielsen.

Q. What is your most memorable moment with the Orchestra so far?
A.
It was a great honour to perform the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto conducted by the late Vernon Handley.

Q. What do you like to do with your free time outside music?
A.
I am a keen runner and have competed in lots of races from 5Ks to marathons. I also enjoy cooking, walking, and visiting new places.

Q. What do you like most about Liverpool?
A.
The friendly down-to-earth nature of its people can't be matched by any other city.
