Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. It's quite difficult to remember, but I have vague recollections of being given a clarinet to pose with for a photo to mark the opening of the Kerry School of Music and holding it the wrong way around!
Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. Celeste.
Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. If I had the talent, professional golfer.
Q. What’s on your record/CD/MP3 Player/Spotify Playlist right now?
A. It changes so often, I have a rock/funk playlist with lots of Stevie Wonder and early Michael Jackson that's a great pick-me-up after a hard day.
Q. What is your favourite Royal Liverpool Philharmonic recording?
A. I'll have to go with the obvious and say the Tchaikovsky Manfred Symphony.
Q. What is your most memorable moment with the Orchestra so far?
A. During our football-themed education concerts a few years ago, the orchestra was really getting into the spirit of it, as we always do in our education concerts. At one point, a group of us did an extravagant goal celebration, sliding on our knees to the front of the stage and did the rocking baby celebration you often see footballers do. Halfway through I realized Vasily (who hadn't started with the orchestra yet) was watching in the box just to our right. I dread to imagine what he was thinking!
Q. What do you like to do with your free time outside music?
A. I try and get a round of golf in as regularly as I can which can be tricky with our schedule, despite recently moving to a house very near my golf club! I also try and get to go to a few Munster or Ireland rugby matches if I can.
Q. What do you like most about Liverpool?
A. The people. In terms of sense of humour and attitude to life it's as close as I can get to living in Ireland without actually being there!
